Looking Back, Contentment, and Book Events!

It’s easy to keep chasing the next goal. But I'm finding that real joy is right here, between the goalposts.

Hi friend,

Have you ever stopped to take a look back at your life and see how far you have come? Even if you find yourself in a place that you never expected or perhaps you never wanted—still there are things to consider. Maybe you can stop and see how beautiful life has been at times, or how much you have grown, or how the journey TO this moment has prepared you FOR this moment.

Finding Contentment Between the Goalposts

I recently looked back at a moment from June 2022, just a few months after releasing my first book, when I was invited on the TODAY Show for the very first time. I never could have imagined that three and a half years later, I’d still be returning, and that it would open so many doors in the years that followed. What strikes me most is what I talked about on that very first show: contentment.

I stand by what I said:

“It’s ok to have goals, but so often when we get to the goal, the goalpost moves as we look for the next thing—and we don’t even have time to sit in that moment and appreciate it. But we can find fulfillment, that satisfaction, in between the goalposts, and we need to because most of our lives are lived in between those goalposts.”

Niro Feliciano, TODAY Show, June 2022

On Monday, October 13th, I’ll be back on the Today Show to talk about my second book, All is Calm…ishThis time feels very different from my first appearance. I’m not just focused on the four minutes I’ll have to share the book—I’m thinking about the journey that brought me here.

I think about the tough days when I still chose to show up, even when I didn’t feel like talking about happiness. I think about the friends I’ve made there, the people who trusted me with their hardest moments, and the relationships that have grown from those conversations. Most of all, I’ve stopped to take in this moment—one I never could have imagined would be part of my regular life—and I see how far I’ve come.

Today I encourage you to do the same. Maybe you are a little stronger, or more appreciative or wiser than you were a year ago. Maybe you have accomplished something that deserves a moment for you to recognize. Or maybe it’s worth just stopping to notice the beauty around you today. Whatever it is, don’t rush to the next thing without finding that something today—and when you do that regularly, that is the path to contentment.

Tall Iced Brown Sugar Oat Milk Shaken Espresso (Starbucks)

It’s fall in Connecticut… and 80 degrees. 🍂☀️ I read that this is the Starbucks drink nutritionists actually recommend—it’s lower in sugar but still feels like a treat and the perfect afternoon pick-me-up.

And if you’re in perimenopause (🙋🏽‍♀️) and tired like me, it’s just the boost you need to power through that evening “second shift.” Pro tip: order it half-caf or decaf if caffeine keeps you up all night!

Why 3 Good Things?

Wellness isn’t one big thing—it’s three good things, or two good things, or five. It’s noticing the gifts of the life we have.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ve probably heard me talk about “3 Good Things.” It’s the question I often ask my kids and one of my favorite gratitude practices.

Research shows that identifying three good things each day can actually rewire your brain from negativity to optimism in just 30 days. Follow along for my 3GT each week! And send me yours! I want to hear from you.
