Stillness, Surrender, and Some Good News

Even amid chaos, there’s beauty waiting for us—if we just notice it.

Hi friend,

Happy to bring you a little wellness for your Wednesday—and that’s a good thing!

It’s fall, y’all! (I think I can say that after a little time in Nashville!) If you’ve been here for a while, you know this is my favorite season. And this year, fall made it onto my list of “good things,” but for a slightly different reason.

The Power of Stillness

A few days ago as I was getting ready for the morning, I noticed out of my window a cascade of leaves gracefully falling to the ground. They gently swirled and twirled, perfectly in synch for just a few seconds—though it felt much longer—and time seemed to stop. I stood there and took in the beauty of my surroundings, which left me in awe of what was a mere few feet away.

My first instinct was to grab my phone, to capture the moment and text it to Natalia, who loves fall but hasn’t seen it arrive in Boston yet. But instead, I paused. I let myself simply take it in. I realized this moment wasn’t meant to be recorded, but to be lived. It reminded me that peace isn’t as far out of reach as it sometimes feels—it can be found in the stillness of right now.

I share this because we’re living in a divided, noisy world filled with chaos and confusion. Yet even in the midst of it, there is beauty to be found. And our well-being—our peace, our mental health—depends on noticing it. When we step away from the noise, even briefly, we gain the strength, perspective, and resilience we need to re-engage with less reactivity and more grace. We need more of that in the world right now, and it is our responsibility to bring it. If we don’t, who will?

Oprah and Edwina Findley Dickerson on Manifesting Life’s Dream for You

I can’t recommend this conversation enough: Oprah and actress Edwina Findley on surrender and letting God write your story. It found me at exactly the right time—right as I was telling my husband, “I’m learning to surrender. My plans, my goals, my kids… all of it.”

And if you, like me, believe in signs, this one may just blow you away.

Gratitude Snapshots

Grateful for 12th birthdays, trips to see my college girl, and cozy candles!

SOME GOOD NEWS

We received our first review from Publisher’s Weekly, and it was good! So grateful, especially because they don’t review every book anymore!

Finally, a good surprise: In the coming weeks, I’ll be announcing in-person events for All is Calm-ish—including one with a special guest. I’d love to meet you there! In the meantime, I would be so grateful if you pre-ordered—and don’t forget to grab your bonuses before October 18th.

Wishing you every good thing this week.

If this letter brought you a little more perspective and joy today, please share it with someone you care about and encourage them to subscribe. Much more to come!

And if this email was shared with you, please subscribe! Each week I share a dose of calm, connection, and clarity rooted in science. I hope you’ll join the conversation!

Why 3 Good Things?

Wellness isn’t one big thing—it’s three good things, or two good things, or five. It’s noticing the gifts of the life we have.

If you’ve followed me for a while, you’ve probably heard me talk about “3 Good Things.” It’s the question I often ask my kids and one of my favorite gratitude practices.

Research shows that identifying three good things each day can actually rewire your brain from negativity to optimism in just 30 days. Follow along for my 3GT each week! And send me yours! I want to hear from you.
